2012 – $2,064,296 

Yep, you heard that right. 

Greenway did $2,064,296 worth of goodness in 2012. Oh, did they only do it because they thought the world was ending? Nope! Greenway just truly loves to give.

How is this number possible? Well, business for the Melrose Trading Post was pretty good. In 2012, the Melrose Trading Post expanded, gaining the ground of Fairfax High’s upper quad. The number of vendors increased to 240.

With this development came recognition. CBS News and Travel and Leisure magazine listed MTP as one of the best flea markets in the country.

The Melrose Trading Post helped out Fairfax students and graduates every step of the way—like when they offered additional training in leadership and management, teaching the go-getters to go get it.

In the next step, Greenway Arts Alliance used the revenue from the market to support Fairfax High School even more. 

Rooms on campus were renovated to accommodate the increased attendance in the afterschool programming. The new rooms included a soundstage, media room, and dance studio for students.

Those rooms were filled with educational fun when $182,309 funded drama, dance, and film classes after school, in addition to film, Shakespeare, poetry, and dance classes in-school.

That’s not the only love shown to the campus that year. $12,996 went to beautifying the campus with the help of an additional gardener. $2,117 bought supplies for the Parent Center. $10,000 went to the school to purchase facilities supplies and equipment. $20,000 allowed the school security to staff additional hours and keep the kids safe. $30,000 was used on an endowment consultant, in order to better understand where to allocate the resources of charitable donations.

Now, the big ticket item. Drumroll, please. Conducted in partnership with Greenway Arts Alliance and Friends of Fairfax, Fairfax High School’s capital campaign ended with the opening of a $14 million football stadium. 

The football field was supported by proceeds from the Melrose Trading Post totalling $1,500,000, and the locker rooms were upgraded to match the new field with $4,000.

No need to get jealous, Soccer Team. The other sports weren’t left behind. The volleyball teams received $3,000 in uniforms, while the soccer team got $1,200 in uniforms and ladders. Another $10,000 went to the athletic department in general.

Students engaging in extracurricular activities had a blast. $1,000 bought microphones and equipment for the talent show. Supplies and parts were needed for students to build robots in Robotics Class, and they were delivered with $1,000. Another $1,000 bought ping pong tables and supplies for the Ping Pong Club. A further $1,000 supported meetings for the Instructional Leadership Team. Lucky Lions.

However, the students weren’t having all the fun. Teachers are building our world’s future, after all. 

Therefore, $97,800 went to a team in charge of the teachers’ professional development and $159,114 was contributed to the team’s office building. $16,000 renovated the teacher’s lounge and $1,064 stocked it with food and supplies. $3,000 put on a couple of enjoyable holiday parties. $5,621 showed some gratitude on Teacher Appreciation Day and a further $1,500 supplied the day’s lunch. Lastly, $575 added to the Teacher Fund classroom supplies requests. Thank you Greenway, for helping ensure that the teachers were well-equipped to teach their students!
