This past October, Greenway co-produced the National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere of Haunted by Tara Moses (Seminole Nation of Oklahoma).

A satirical ghost story with the coolest Y2K hits, Haunted forces us to confront the very land we walk on and our relationship (or lack thereof) with Indigenous communities today. Native Voices, an all Native and Indigenous theatre company here in Los Angeles, have been staging productions at the Autry Museum for the last 30 years and are branching out into the wider community as they grow and evolve.

Haunted was also part of our Greenway Reads program, an annual, multi-disciplinary approach to programming that leads the Fairfax High School community and beyond in a community reading of a pre-selected novel, both focusing on the thematic content of the work as well as bringing this novel to life through arts education and special events. The curriculum ultimately culminates in a professional stage production at Greenway Court Theatre, where students are often introduced to live theater for the first time, and led through discussions with the cast and crew. The reception to the show from both students and our Greenway audience alike was a joy to behold, as they laughed, shrieked, and learned with the characters on the stage.

We were honored to collaborate with Native Voices on this production, and look forward to next year’s Greenway Reads.
