GIA Has Been Changed For Good: High Praises for The Land of Oz Showcase!
Over the course of the fall semester, GIA offered Musical Theatre Classes for Fairfax High School students where they were able to hone their singing, dancing, and acting skills while also becoming a part of the GIA family! Students would meet every Wednesday at the Greenway Court Theatre to rehearse songs from The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz, and the Wicked franchise as they were working towards their end of semester culmination with the Land of Oz showcase.
Once the week of the show arrived, students added the finishing touches to their performances, implementing props, costumes, lights and other technical elements to the performance. And with the help of their amazing directors Jonny Perl and Zuri Reed and their spectacular producer Christina Carrera, the students were off to see the wizard and ready for a night in Emerald City!
On Friday November 7th, the cast and crew of the Land of Oz showcase performed to stellar reviews! Performing hit songs such as “Ease on Down”, “Popular”, and “Dancing Through Life” the audience was instantly captivated and despite the rainy weather, the show was able to make it ‘over the rainbow’ and wow the crowd. They even performed a special encore rendition of “What Is This Feeling?” to the delight of the audience! It was truly a wonderful night and we are so proud of all our GIA students, we can’t wait to see what comes next! •
