2005 – $199,398.00 –

2005 was a big year for drama.

Greenway Court Theatre had a huge hit. They co-produced Tom Gibbon’s Permanent Collection with Robey Theatre Company. It was a critical and audience favorite, with Variety Magazine‘s review quoted as saying, “Based on the travails of the Barnes Foundation outside of Philadelphia, Gibbons’ insightful if slightly manufactured dissection of ego, art and race provides welcome layers to a traditional debate play, and this robust production…brings the tension to a believable boil.”

The Greenway Court Theatre had yet another success in 2005, as Greenway Arts Alliance and Actor’s Studio co-produced Orphans. With a script written by Lyle Kessler and starring Al Pacino and Jesse Eisenberg, the show had a three-week run at Greenway Court Theatre.

As for drama inside of the school, $149,557 went to after-school drama classes, after-school film classes, in-school Shakespeare classes, and in-school poetry classes. $2,050 bought the drama club new sets and costumes. The dance and theater class rented costumes, sets, and lights for a production with $2,050 from GAA.

We love to support the arts here at Greenway, but we’re big fans of sports, too.

The soccer team wasn’t forgotten. They were given lifting benches for $3,090 and a tent for $250.

The girl’s basketball team used $2,000 to buy a shooting machine. I bet they honed their three-pointer skills and made the Lions proud.

The football team used $4,500 on weight equipment, while the volleyball team needed $993 for 30 volleyballs. The tennis team got new windscreens for $2,500.

In fact, in addition to the arts and sports, we love supporting everything Fairfax High has to offer.

ROTC enjoyed $2,488 in supplies, and another $2,000 for uniforms, training videos, training equipment, and printer supplies.

The Parent Center needed $5,000 and $18,720 for staffing.

To finish out another great year, the class of 2005 received $4,200.
