2014 – $484,154

Big year, 2015. Big year for the Melrose Trading Post, for Greenway Arts Alliance, and for Fairfax High.

Firstly, a hefty $146,435 was deposited into Fairfax’s own donation account. A clerical position in the school’s office was filled and paid for with $55,340. The principal’s discretionary fund was filled with $51,940. $500 funded a charity project.

Always a benefactor for beautification, Greenway made the campus shine with power washing that cost $6,300.

As always, Greenway supported the curriculum at Fairfax, this time with $193,932. This included after-school drama and dance classes, as well as in-school arts integration, Shakespeare, literature, and dance classes.

Of course, the athletic department continued strong. The girls’ soccer team needed $1,350. The baseball team needed equipment, bats, and baseballs for $2,125. The girls’ volleyball team used $800 for uniforms.

Students Run for LA again used $2,000 to feed and water their marathon runners. Incredible work, students. My legs are cramping just thinking about it.

The music department had a competitive year and received $8,200 to participate in a tournament. They paid tournament fees and bought music and instruments. I bet they were pitch-perfect! They also used some of that sum for professional development and team-building.

The Journalism Club utilized $4,650 to print and distribute five issues of the school newspaper.

The Ping Pong Club broke in their new ping pong tables that were bought with $1,000.

The Debate Club received $5,000 for a sponsor stipend.

L.A.C.E.R. continued their good work at Fairfax with $1,457 in supplies. A further $1,125 went to tumbling mats, keeping the more gymnastic students safe.

ASB Leadership needed $2,000 for another leadership conference.

Wow. It looks like the Fairfax graduating class of 2015 was a well-rounded bunch: gymnasts, soccer players, journalists, debate experts, musicians, and theatrically gifted!
