Greenway Court Theatre has closed its limited run of Greenwood 1964, an original production by our very own Producing Director Mohammed Ojarigi.

The play immerses audiences into a transformative period in American civil rights history, vividly capturing the mood, urgency and challenges of summer 1964.

Greenwood 1964 chronicles a fictionalized imagining of a real life journey taken by life long collaborators and friends, Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte. They journeyed to the south during ‘Freedom Summer’ – a time of upheaval and simmering tensions in Mississippi as both black and white students alike fought for equal voting rights. Some paid for it with their lives, striking national conversation and leading these two famous icons to do their part for the cause.

Thank you to our community for coming out and seeing our show. We are humbled and deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support! We thank the phenomenal cast and crew for their talent, heart, and dedication that made this possible, and how they honored these iconic figures with their power, passion, and grace.

Stay tuned for what form this vital and poignant play takes next!
